Developed in the early
80's, sport climbing is becoming increasingly popular and growing
rapidly. Inherited from our French friends, sport climbing evolved
by bolting unprotected limestone faces otherwise unclimeable by traditional
methods. Placing bolts close to each other, safety became a secondary
issue with the new emphasis on difficulty.
With the number of climbing walls sharply on the increase, sport climbing
has become the natural path for those wanting to spread their wings
and climb outside.
Steve McClure, a truly worldclass athlete and member of the
British climbing team, has taken sport climbing to a new level with
two of the hardest routes in the world already under his belt. In
this section Steve gives you expert advice and passes on those top
tips that he has found so useful.
